Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Am I suited to a career as a Driving Instructor? In short we have no idea at this stage. You should consider the following points.
Are you good with people and a good communicator?
Do you enjoy driving enough that instructing could become a passion?
Have you held a UK licence, preferably clean, for at least 4 years?
Are you at least 21 years of age
Are you prepared to work hard to gain your qualifications?
Are you prepared to have a Criminal Record check carried out on you?
Would you enjoy the buzz of seeing your pupils pass their driving test?
If you have answered yes to all of these questions then we think that you have the potential to become a great driving instructor. But before you launch headlong into our training course we suggest that you come along to meet us and have an informal chat. This will give us the opportunity to asses you and give you some honest feedback about your suitability for a career in Driving Instruction. Remember that we are looking to produce the very highest standards in our driving instructors so we will not take your money unless we are pretty sure that we can get your through the process. If we think that you are suitable and you like the training opportunities at Driving Ambition we will offer you a no obligation driving assessment. During this three hour session we will look at your drive and offer you advice so that you can go away and start to improve. There is a charge for this assessment; however should you choose to go ahead with your training we will refund this charge against the cost of your course fee.
Q2. Will I find work as a Driving Instructor?
Yes, Driving Ambition's driving school has seen steady growth over the last few years, demand for our services consistently keeps our instructors busy. We will be happy to discuss how we can continue to work together once you have qualified and what the benefits of working under an established brand are when compared to going it alone.
Q3. How much will the training cost? Driving Ambition offers two ways of paying for your training you can choose to pay as you go although this is often more expensive in the long run or you can pay a one off fee that includes all the training that you will need to qualify as a Driving instructor. The course fee is currently £2750 plus vat. You may qualify for a Career Development Loan which have a deferred repayment plan until fully qualified.
Q4. Do I need to be an expert driver already? No, but you must have held a full uk licence for at least 4 years and be at least 21 years of age. Our expert trainers will rebuild your drive and where necessary, lift it to the standard required.
Q5. Do I have to give up my present job? Driving Ambition offers a flexible package that allows you to train around you current commitments.
Q6. Why should I train with Driving Ambition? We believe that our instructor's are among the best there is. They are all highly qualified not only in Learner driver instruction but also advanced techniques. See our Team page.
Q7. Can I come to you if I have started training elsewhere? Yes of course you can, after an initial chat we will assess where you are and tailor a course to suit your needs. You can even come to us if you have already had an attempt at any part of the qualifying process and failed.
Q8. Can I teach while training? Yes once you have passed part two of the qualifying exam, undergone training in how to teach and demonstrated to us that you can deliver lessons that are up to our very strict quality controls, we will offer you the chance to teach on a trainee licence. You will be able to practice your newly learned skills while awaiting your final exam. Please note by law twenty percent of the lessons that you conduct have to be supervised by an approved driving instructor or you must undergo an additional 20 hours of training This supervision/training will attract an additional charge.
Q9. Will I have to share my training with others? Usually our trainers work on a one-to-one basis. However it is sometimes beneficial to be able to watch other people as they go through the process. If we use a ratio of two-to-one we will always get agreement from the parties concerned.
Q10. I notice that you are ORDIT registered what does that mean? ORDIT stands for the Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers. It means that our premises, records and trainers are assessed by the Driving Standards Agency, the people who set the tests. To gain and maintain our registration we have to demonstrate the highest of training standards.
